Sitting between the waste outlet and the waterproofing membrane, the flange creates a permanent mechanical and chemical bond that prevents water from tracking down the outside of the pipe and into the substrate below. Pair your flanges with a compatible primer (epoxy for non-porous PVC), bond breaker tape at the wall/floor junction, and reinforcement fabric over the flange top before the second membrane coat.
